Soneva Kiri is set to welcome back the 3* Chef Kenji Gyoten from February 1-7, 2020. Lucky diners will get the chance to skip the young sushi master’s 12-month long waiting list at his restaurant, Sushi Gyoten, in Fukuoka, and dine with only four other guests for an intimate Chef’s Table experience. After Soneva Kiri, he will be at Soneva Fushi, Maldives from February 8-15, 2020. Chef Kenji was born in 1982 in the Yamaguchi Prefecture and was influenced by his grandfather, a sushi chef, into becoming a sushi chef himself. After working underneath his mentors in Tokyo, the chef opened Sushi Gyoten in Fukuoka at the age of 26, and has received three Michelin stars in three consecutive years since 2014. Chef Kenji is known for using the hontegaeshi (hand flip) technique of Endomae nigiri to prepare his bite-sized sushi - a technique that is rarely seen these days. At Sushi Gyoten the chef uses rice that has been sourced from a region in Kyushu, where there are extreme temperature differences between night and day for its unique flavour. He sources his seafood both locally and from the renowned Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo to ensure he only serves the very best. For more information about Soneva, visit www.soneva.com

With Thailand being an ideal tourist destination for its tropical climate and Nai Harn charming its guests with its serene beach setting and surrounding iconic attractions, the opening of the new Wyndham Grand Nai Harn Beach Phuket could not have come at a more opportune time. As the island’s first upper upscale resort, we want to provide guests not only a place to stay but also a great experience that they would remember,” said Joon Aun Ooi, President and Managing Director, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, South East Asia and Pacific Rim. Elaborating about the progress of the hotel, Joon Aun said, “Initially, the plan was to open the resort under the Wyndham brand, but as the project progressed, we felt that the positioning strategy and brand identity was more suited for a Wyndham Grand hotel. We realigned the unique selling points of this hotel’s concept and built an effective branding strategy, not only visually but also hotel concept development wise. We don’t only consider the aesthetics, but all the intangible features this brand provides.”  Joon Aun further added, “Wyndham Grand Nai Harn Beach Phuket, a stunning oasis of serenity is designed surrounding clear blue lagoons and lush forests allowing authentic experiences and touchpoints for the modern traveller. South-East Asia’s wildest New Year’s Eve celebration is back to help you ring in 2020! In recent editions, NEON Countdown has conquered Malaysia and become one of the largest music festivals in the country. Following on from this, in 2018 NEON reaffirmed its reputation as Asia’s fastest-growing paint party by expanding into Thailand, with other destinations planned for the near future.  This time round, Neon Countdown has joined forces with the renowned Meta Music Festival to bring you Meta: The Rebellion of Neon Countdown. Attendees are warmly invited to celebrate the end of the decade with a myriad of international and local DJs, creating a community built on the brand’s core values: love music and experience.  Confirmed line-up for the festival are Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, who have just been crowned as DJ Mag’s No. 1 DJ in the entire world! Not only that, but Armin van Buuren (currently no. 4 on the list and the highest ranking of all trance acts) will also be headlining the event. The bar has already been set extremely high with the announcement of these two world-class artists.  Vini Vici, the most iconic psytrance artist in the world, their cataclysmic, yet authentic and mesmerizing sound took them away beyond the psychedelic world spectrum. Following after, Valentino Khan, Will Sparks, Ben Nicky, Dimatik and many more.  Slap that paint across your face and watch the Show DC Arena come to life under the ultraviolet glow; it won’t just be the skies that are lit up this December. The Maldives’ much-loved eco-resort will once again open its doors on 1 December 2019 following an inspired renovation of the resort. Honouring its laidback philosophy and rustic chic aesthetic, the island will remain an intimate and sustainable paradise for the barefoot luxury traveller, with a new design concept and wellness programmes to further enrich the guest experience. Originally opened in 2012, Gili Lankanfushi was previously voted ‘Best Hotel in the World’ by TripAdvisor for its relaxed air and impeccable service. Located in the languid waters of the North Malé Atoll, just a 20-minute speedboat ride from Malé, it is the ultimate place to get away from the world. The 45 refurbished villas will offer open-air living spaces, roof terraces and private decks with direct access to the lagoon below, and the revamped Residence and Villa suites will feature private pools, providing greater convenience for guests. The Family Villas with Pools are a new addition to the resort featuring two en suite bedrooms, a private swimming pool for children to splash in the sunshine, a rooftop terrace for additional space to dine and play, as well as a living room situated over the lagoon and accessible from a safe walkway. The vast 1,700m2 Private Reserve - the largest overwater villa in the world - is located 500m from the main island and offers four spacious bedrooms, a private open-air cinema, spoiling spa, air-conditioned gymnasium, infinity pool and a two-storey waterslide leading directly into the crystal clear lagoon. Interior Design The island’s natural surroundings, culture, and sustainability are very much at the heart of the property’s design to create synergy and cohesiveness between the external and internal environments. A warm, neutral palette is accented by colourful, locally sourced fabrics and every piece of furniture in the new villas and living areas are custom made by skilled local craftsmen using a variety of upcycled materials. These include charming recycled teakwood bed frames, lampshades handwoven from recycled wire mesh incorporating fish and sea turtles from the surrounding waters and cushion fabrics handprinted with coral patterns found on the reefs. The coffee tables have also been engraved with stars to reflect the clear night sky and hanging lamps are crafted from bamboo prawn catcher baskets. Guests will also have the option to set up luxurious rooftop daybeds for an atmospheric night’s sleep beneath the stars and each villa has a dedicated butler service catering to guests’ every wish. Guest Experiences Gili Lankanfushi will mark the re-opening of resort with a series of new educational and active wellness programmes that combine both the paradise that is the serene Meera Spa and the educational experience from the team of deeply knowledgeable experts at the Marine Biology Shack. Revolutionising the festival landscape with a celebration of art, music, food and ideas that positions it as one of the world’s most unique musical experiences, Thailand’s sustainable utopia Wonderfruit returns for its sixth edition on 12th-16th December 2019 at The Fields At Siam Country Club, Pattaya. Nestled within lush greenery as far as the eye can see and situated just 2 hours from Bangkok, Wonderfruit champions a trailblazing ethos of inspiring lasting sustainable change through its yearly gathering in eastern Thailand, a famous meeting point for like-minded travellers in search of a rare and beautiful festival experience. With creative forces from across the globe and locally, plus welcoming diverse regional and international talent, many influences combine to create Wonderfruit’s living and breathing pop up city. The vibrant culmination is built on 6 key pillars at its core: Art & Architecture, Music, Family, Farm To Feasts, Talks & Workshops and Wellness, all of which are heavily steered by Wonderfruit’s aim to create meaningful environmental impact on an ever-growing scale. With breathtaking experiences as wide-ranging as the world’s first 360-degree sound structure within the stunning Polygon or Solar Stage’s shaded cover to witness sunrise and sunset, Wonderfruit is a hedonistic playground for all its global citizens, with hidden thrills, visual delights and a challenging, 24- hour musical programme on offer throughout. Further deconstructing the Wonderfruit experience into a cluster of villages connected by social spaces, a main stage is replaced in favour of the bustling Living Village that boasts music, dining options and workshops in a new interactive area assembled from recycled plastic materials and designed to offer new ways to touch, taste, hear, see and feel the world around us. Cited as the location for “bold statements and unashamed self-expression”, the impressive all- bamboo structure of Forbidden Fruit welcomes all, while The Quarry plunges dancers into a jungle where beats meet nature. Explore The Fields to find the Molam Bus, a party of authentic Molam performances to celebrate the Isaan way that influences so much of Thai culture, or head to 24-hour hub Neramit for cocktails, brunch or dinner. Scratch Talks’ takeover of the Eco Pavilion will challenge and change how we view the world by assembling some of our greatest speakers and Wonderness offers city dwellers the opportunity to take part in wellness and workshops, with world- class cuisine served up along communal dining tables in the Theatre of Feasts. Providing the soundtrack across Wonderfruit’s multitude of experiences are a groundbreaking clutch of artists from near and far that explore the broadest corners of genre. Four Tet reigns as one of modern dance music’s most influential figures and he’ll be demonstrating why with an eagerly-anticipated set on the Solar Stage, built by Burning Man artist Gregg Fleishman, while Rush Hour boss Antal promises house, disco and undiscovered gems for dancers everywhere. Beatboxing legend Beardyman unleashes his trademark blistering style and flow, Raphäel Top-Secret and John Gómez push the boundaries of club music and Sarathy Korwar showcases the frantic sounds of his unique spiritual

The iconic riverfront bar at Anantara Riverside Bangkok has reopened on 31 October 2019 with a revamped décor and an inventive all-new menu. Named after traditional longtail boats that chug up and down the mighty Chao Praya, Longtail by the River pays homage to the city’s main water artery and its storied history.  Bangkok’s riverfront heritage is experiencing an unprecedented revival as evidenced by a spate of development projects ranging from hip art centers to mega malls. What is now a time warp of abandoned World War II-era warehouses, labyrinthine alleyways and tumbledown shophouses is being integrated into the sprawling metropolis at a formidable speed. Longtail guests are well-placed to contemplate the passage of time from the bar’s plush outdoor sofas overlooking the Chao Praya and the futuristic city skyline. At sunset, when the river traffic peaks, the contrast between Bangkok’s entrepot heritage and unbridled modernity is particularly striking.  This evocative confluence of old and new was masterfully captured by Bangkok-based design firm greymatters tasked with redesigning the venue. At this modern, al fresco space overlooking the river, natural materials such as wood, metal and stone interact in intricate, symmetrical patterns. While the imposing circular bar acts as a centerpiece, quieter-looking Italian-style communal table and a swing daybed for two ensure that guests’ undivided attention remains on the main attraction—the river.  Mixologists busy at work at the imposing sala at water’s edge will shake up adventurous-sounding sunset cocktails, premium gin and tonics served with pomegranate seeds, lime and lemongrass and signature build-your-own ginny beverages.  Playful Liquid Mango Sticky Rice cocktail features kai coconut pandan vodka, mango, rice water and coconut cream, while the signature Silent Monk libation is made with durian-infused gin, Maraschino Luxardo, hibiscus tonic water and is served with durian chips. There is also an array of chilled local craft beers, premium champagne and imported and local wines.  Diving deep into the local culinary tradition, the Longtail’s new menu brings together regional cuisines from across the kingdom: from northern sai oua sausages to Isaan som tum with grilled pork neck to southern green curry with roti. Some other menu highlights include poo nim tod kra-tiam—fried soft-shell crab with garlic and Sriracha sauce, massamun kae—creamy lamb shank curry and pad cha nor mai ta lay—briny sea asparagus with green peppercorn and holy basil. Arguably the best way to experience Longtail is by arriving by river shuttle departing from BTS Saphan Taksin and offering complimentary rides to Anantara Riverside. The bar is open daily from 1.00 pm to 1.00 am and is ideal for afternoon beers, sunset cocktails, dinner and a nightcap with live music.  For more information or to make reservation, please contact +66 2 476 0022
