New York City as Seen on Screen
Whether it’s an unplanned holiday trip, an epic clash to save the world, friends experiencing daily life in the five boroughs or anything in between, storytellers in film and television have long chosen New York City as their setting. No matter your favorite genre, a trip to NYC is an opportunity to see where some of these iconic scenes came to life: For the sitcom lover Friends While Friends was primarily filmed in a studio, the West Village apartment where Rachel, Monica, Joey, Phoebe, Ross and Chandler live and hang out is a real building on the corner of Bedford and Grove Streets. At its street level, you will find Mediterranean restaurant The Little Owl in the same space as the Central Perk café where Rachel works and Phoebe famously performs “Smelly Cat”. Additionally, the neighborhood houses a number of prominent Off-Broadway theaters including The Lucille Lortel Theatre, where aspiring actor Joey performs in the show’s earlier seasons. How I Met Your Mother While retracing Ted’s 11-season search for his wife, be sure to grab a drink at McGee’s, the Midtown Manhattan bar that inspired the gang’s go-to spot, MacLarens. Try what Marshall declares to be the best burger in NYC at ‘21’ Club; tour the Columbia University campus where Ted (unwittingly) first meets his wife; and have a legen
Take A Look Inside Mauritius’ Newest Luxury Property on The South Eastern Coast
Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is entering the luxury hospitality sector on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius with the announcement of Anantara Mauritius Resort – a new luxury property on the South Eastern coast which is scheduled to open in Q4 2019. Part of an integrated coastal development, just 15 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, the new resort will be located near Blue Bay Marine Park – a leisure destination boasting a protected marine park, crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters and powdery white beaches. Blue Bay’s coral reefs make it one of the island’s premier snorkelling and diving destination. Anantara Mauritius Resort will feature 164 guest rooms and suites, with eight luxury pool villas – two with two bedrooms and six with four bedrooms – to be added in the first half of 2020. Facilities at the resort will include Sea.Fire.Salt – a specialty grill and seafood restaurant with courtyard and beach dining, an all-day dining restaurant, private dining with a wine cellar, a healthy wellness-focused cafe, two bars – one by the poolside and one facing the beach, a 30-metre ozone-based swimming pool, a gym, a signature Anantara Spa and a kids’ club. The look and feel of the new resort have been created by award winning Ground Kent Architects, Australia, in collaboration with the Office of Global Architecture in Mauritius, alongside Abacus Design interior designers of Thailand. The design reflects the melting pot history of the country, drawing influences from the rich architectural heritage seen in the capital Port Louis and around the island. Natural, locally-sourced materials take precedence, harmoniously anchoring the buildings in their natural setting. Taking inspiration from local colonial architecture, the overall effect effortlessly evokes the vibe of a relaxing, tropical beach house, yet one with a distinctly modern feel. The use of scattered light, basalt and volcanic stone, drift wood, wave-and-ripple patterns and neutral sandy colours blur the line between the indoor and the outdoor. Fabrics and art selected for the rooms are a contrasting combination of accents of orange, deep ultramarine and royal yellow as a nod to Blue Bay’s crystal waters, sandy beaches and legendary sunsets. With the resort’s dining options ranging from traditional creole cooking to fine dining, guests can expect a gastronomic experience rooted in an exotic blend of European, Asian and African influences. Most of the ingredients will be harvested locally since Mauritius benefits from incredibly fertile soil, while the ocean is the source of the freshest seafood and fish. As part of Anantara’s commitment to sustainability, the resort will incorporate solar technology for water heating in all guest rooms, to reduce the usage on energy. Other green initiatives include planting endemic flora within the hotel landscaping, reusing water for irrigation and cleaning as well as incorporating recycled materials into resort décor. The property will be plastic straw-free, an Anantara standard, and where possible organic farming methods will be encouraged throughout its restaurant supply chain. An island nation in the south western Indian Ocean, Mauritius is known for its varied flora and fauna, with many species endemic to the island. Famously the only known home of the dodo, an avian species which became extinct back in the 1600s, the island

Jordan: Land of Wonders
Jordan is one of those countries that once existed for me solely in images in various shades of terracotta, ochre and apricot of the famous façade of Petra’s Treasury, carved into the rose-tinted sandstone, and mysterious rock formations towering above the desert sands of Wadi Rum. These images alone were enough for the country to enter my wish list, and when I finally ended up booking a trip to Jordan with my partner, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect beyond these beautiful scenes. Jordan’s capital of Amman was a great place to get my first taste of the country. We spent a few days in the hilly city, visiting museums and art galleries, eating our body weight in mezze dishes, sampling our first Jordanian wines and getting several layers of skin scrubbed off in a hamman (Turkish bath), as well as meeting our first friendly Jordanians. While walking in the streets of the city, people would come up to us to greet us and shake our hands and welcome us to Amman, making us feel like celebrity tourists. We took a taxi back to the airport to collect our car – a Mitsubishi Pajero – from a rental company, and then headed south out of the city towards the Dead Sea. From a dark brown beach in front of a hotel, we rubbed ourselves with thick strong-smelling clay and then blobbed about like star fish in the painfully salty water. The Dead Sea isn’t the most scenic place in Jordan, but the experience of being weightless in water is definitely a memorable one. Most travellers make a beeline from the Dead Sea straight to Petra, three hours south by car, but after our afternoon at the Dead Sea we decided to spend a few days in the Dana Biosphere Reserve. Jordan's second largest national park, Dana has remained under the international radar until now, when more visitors are starting to discover this glorious stretch of rugged mountain and desert wilderness. We spent two nights glamping in the upper part of the reserve at Rummana Campsite, which was a great starting point to explore the mountain section of the reserve. Our days passed on hikes along easy trails through the dramatic landscape: deep canyons, sandstone cliffs and carved caves, and green hills peppered with colourful spring wild flowers. As the crow flies, it’s only about 15km from Rummana to Feynan Ecolodge, which lies at the southern end of the reserve, but because of the mountains, the drive took us two hours. The reserve in the south is totally different: very dry and rocky with little foliage, with just a few bright pink oleander trees dotted about. We drove our Mitsubishi 4x4 on sandy tracks past a scattering of Bedouin tents and clumps of mountain goats to reach Feynan, an unusual-looking stone building almost the same colour as the desert sand. As soon as we checked in, we realised that Feynan is not your typical ecolodge: the attention to detail that has gone into creating a truly

BULL & BEAR CELEBRATES “THE ART OF DRY AGING” WITH EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED-TIME MENU
Bull & Bear at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok invites guests to discover a new expression of “The Art of Dry Aging” through an exclusive menu, pushing the boundaries of premium steak dining with the combination of traditional dry-aging methods with contemporary flavour infusions. Whiskey Butter Aged, the first signature technique showcased in this exclusive menu, features Australian Black Angus and Wagyu MB7 slow-aged for 35 days in butter infused with Michter’s Kentucky Straight Rye, yielding cuts of buttery tenderness with warm notes of spice, toasted oak, and a lingering bourbon-like sweet aftertaste. Highlights include Australian Black Angus NY Strip Steak (300g) priced at THB 3,300++, Australian Wagyu Tenderloin MB7 (200g) at THB 3,500++, and Full Blood Wagyu Tomahawk MB9 at THB 12,800++ per kilogram. The second, Chipotle Onion & Beef Tallow Aging, takes a deeper, smokier direction as True North Black Onyx and Japanese Hokkaido Wagyu are aged in rendered beef tallow infused with roasted onion and chipotle, enhancing the beef’s natural sweetness and the delicate, smoky warmth that plays beautifully against the meat's natural A4 marbling. Recommended selections include Australian Black Angus Ribeye MB4 (350g) at THB 3,600++, Hokkaido Wagyu Ribeye A4 (400g) at THB 4,900++, and Saga Wagyu Striploin A4 (250g) at THB 4,800++. To complete the experience, pair it with The Kombu Butter Fettuccine (THB 750++), which deepens the savoury profile of the beef with hijiki seaweed and cured egg yolk, or the Grilled Bone Marrow (THB 650++) served with Barolo Jus to balance the richness of the Wagyu with acidity rather than compete. Flamboyant Feast at EBBE
A Nordic vision takes root in Bangkok’s heart at EBBE. BKK There’s a particular hush that descends when something exceptional is about to unfold. At EBBE.BKK, tucked away on the lower ground floor of Erawan Bangkok, on Ploenchit Road, this silence feels almost ceremonial. Sixteen counter seats face an open kitchen where Chef Ebbe Vollmer and his team moved with the precision of watchmakers, each gesture deliberate, each plate a study in restraint. The location couldn’t be more convenient for those navigating Bangkok’s perpetual chaos. Erawan Bangkok sits at the intersection of the city’s commercial and cultural heart, accessible by BTS, and surrounded by familiar landmarks from luxury hotels to premium shopping. Yet step into EBBE.BKK’s warm, Scandinavian-inspired interior, and the frenetic energy of the neighbourhood dissolves entirely. The space breathes with a different rhythm: calm, focused, intentional. Chef Ebbe’s journey to Bangkok is the sort that builds culinary legends. Beginning in his grandmother’s hostelry in Hörby, Sweden, he moved to London at sixteen to train under Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay — names that need no embellishment. His CV reads like a greatest hit of modern gastronomy: leading JAAN in Singapore to a spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, co-founding the two-Michelin-starred Vollmers, and most recently, earning a star for EBBE – Chef’s Counter in Florida within a year of opening. Now, he’s brought his philosophy of purity and expressive minimalism to Bangkok, and the result feels both groundbreaking and inevitable. The Prestige Menu—a tasting journey that evolves with seasonal ingredients—kickstarted with Cucumber, Lemon, Salmon. It was a deceptively simple trilogy that marked the evening’s intentions. The essence of each component was brought into perfect harmony through Nordic culinary techniques applied to ingredients that speak of Thai terroir, and the flavours were beyond brilliance. I could not wait for the next course to arrive. What followed was a masterclass in this philosophy, I would say. Spinach, Rygost, Apple Cider met in a composition that balanced earth and brightness. An éclair (yes, an éclair!) was reimagined with ceps and Mimolette, transforming the familiar into something entirely new whilst respecting its essential character. Garden peas were elevated with lemon and horseradish, the latter’s heat tempered to allow the sweetness of the peas their moment. The Crabe des Neiges, Cucumber, Finger Lime course demonstrated Chef Ebbe’s deft hand with luxurious ingredients. Paired with cucumber and finger lime, the sweet crab needed little intervention. The citrus notes cut through without overwhelming, whilst the cucumber provided a cool counterpoint. It was the dish that made me slow down, pay attention and taste each element separately before experiencing them as a whole. White Tuna, Green Apple, Elderflower continued this theme of clarity. There was a floral hint here that could veer into perfume, but didn’t. Instead, it lingered just long enough to make the dish memorable before yielding to the next course: Beetroot, Blackcurrant, Black Lemon. This was where Chef Ebbe’s Swedish roots showed most clearly — the earthy, sweet beetroots given Nordic treatment and a new complexity through

The experience continues with “Mindful Mandela Art, a meditative practice of creating mandala patterns that foster focus, serenity, and inner balance amidst lush garden surroundings.” An exceptional evening follows at Nai Muang Restaurant, renowned for its distinctive Southern Thai cuisine. Signature dishes such as Gaeng Som Nai Mueang (Southern Sour Curry), Moo Pad Kapi Sataw (Stir-fried Pork with Shrimp Paste and Stink Beans), and Bai Liang Pad Khai (Stir-fried Melinjo Leaves with Egg). highlight the bold flavors of the South and the quality of local ingredients. The final morning leads to Memories Beach, home to “Ocean Therapy, a practice that harnesses the restorative power of the ocean through water activities.” As one of Thailand’s premier surfing spots, it helps release stress and strengthen both body and mind under the guidance of experienced instructors. The Diamond Decade: ONYX Hospitality Group Plots a THB 10.33 Billion Future
What began as a single hotel venture during the dawn of Thai travel has evolved into a regional powerhouse. Sixty years on, ONYX is proving that heritage and high-growth strategy go hand-in-hand. The evolution of Thai tourism is inextricably linked to the story of Amari. Decades ago, as the first waves of international travelers began exploring the kingdom’s coastlines and cityscapes, a single hotel stood at the forefront of the movement. Amari didn’t just provide a place to sleep; it helped define the very essence of "Thai Hospitality"—that rare blend of genuine warmth, local intuition, and international standards. As Thailand transformed into a global travel titan, Amari was right there, scaling alongside the industry and turning local charm into a sophisticated regional export. Today, ONYX Hospitality Group is celebrating its 60th anniversary not with a glance in the rearview mirror, but with a foot firmly on the accelerator. The group has announced an ambitious target of THB 10.33 billion in revenue by 2026—a 14% year-on-year jump—fueled by a THB 5.5 billion investment plan dedicated to upgrading its most iconic properties. CEO Yuthachai Charanachitta isn’t just chasing numbers; he’s refining the "ONYX Universe." The strategy focuses on sharpening the identities of its core brands to meet the quirks and cravings of the modern traveler. Amari is leaning further into its upper-upscale roots, offering "Brighten Your World" moments enriched by local culture. OZO has transitioned into a lifestyle-first brand for the traveler who wants a seamless, high-energy stay, while Shama continues to dominate the serviced apartment scene by fostering a sense of community for long-stay guests. At the pinnacle, Oriental Residence offers a quiet, understated luxury that prioritizes privacy and personalization. With a pipeline that includes new launches in Bangkok, Malaysia, and China, the group is on track to manage over 75 properties by 2030. From the major transformation of Amari Phuket to the boutique allure of Amari Resort & Villas in Samui, ONYX is proving that while they may have 60 years of history, their journey is only just getting started. It’s a bold vision for a "medium-sized" player that clearly has its sights set on big-league impact. More information: www.onyx-hospitality.com
